Spokesman of the Azerbaijani Foreigm Ministry Elman Abdullayev commented on Azerbaijan’s mutual relations with UNESCO in light of its election to a number of ruling and supporting structures of this organization.
Talking about Azerbaijan’s election to these structures of UNESCO, Abdullayev first of all noted the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, to which Azerbaijan was elected for 2010-2014.
According to the spokesman, Azerbaijan was elected a vice-president of the Committee at the sixth session held in Indonesia in 2011.
Abdullayev also highlighted the Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Program, the Intergovernmental Council of the International Program for the Development of Communication, the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport, UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property to its Countries of Origin or its Restitution in Case of Illicit Appropriation, and the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in armed Conflict, to which the country was elected for 2011-2015.
Abdullayev also touched upon the cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO.
