Preservation Iowa assembles the list annually to raise awareness of threatened historic treasures, adding urgency to fundraising appeals and efforts to save what cannot easily be replaced.
The list includes 10 structures. Those nearby include the Wapsipinicon Mill Museum in Independence, the Winneshiek County Home and Farm caretaker's house near Decorah and the Mitchell County Courthouse in Osage.
Each has been in the news recently. Winneshiek County officials on Wednesday voted for funding to "deconstruct" the former county home. At the same time, advocates in Independence were working on paperwork that might lead to additional dollars for the mill.
